All About Mrs. Mason
Hello! My name is Mrs. Alison Mason, and I’d love to introduce myself and give you a little insight of what makes me the educator
I am today…
On a personal note, I grew up in the Bay Area in the small agricultural town of Brentwood. I am the oldest of three children, and my family owns a Ford dealership in Brentwood. Many of you have met my youngest brother, Daniel, who was previously enlisted in the U.S. Air Force. My other brother, Thomas, works at our family business in my hometown. After graduating high school I moved up to Chico for college. In college is where I met my husband, Zack, almost seventeen years ago. We had our first little girl, Presley Claire, in August of 2012 and we had our second little girl, Piper Jane, in October of 2014. We are thoroughly enjoying being parents and going through all the fun adventures a seven-year-old and almost five-year-old bring! In my spare time I enjoy crafting, antiquing, and interior decorating.
As for my educational background, In May 2007, I received my Bachelor of Arts degree from California State University, Chico. I majored in Liberal Studies with a concentration in Child Development. In May 2008, I completed my Multiple Subject Credential with CLAD emphasis at California State University, Chico; during this time, I was awarded a scholarship from Alpha Delta Kappa, the international honorary organization for women educators. I taught sixth grade at Arboga Elementary in Marysville for two years, and I taught a fifth/sixth grade combination class here at Lake for two years and sixth grade here at Lake the last eight years. This is my TENTH year at Lake, can you believe it? Time flies! I am currently teaching sixth grade at Lake Elementary, and I am in my twelfth year as a full-time elementary teacher. I had the high honor of assisting my previous school in receiving the 2010 California Distinguished School Award. In 2009, I was proud to earn the “Educators Who Make a Difference” award from the Yuba County Office of Education, and in 2015/2016 I also helped Lake Elementary School earn our FIRST Gold Ribbon Award from the State of California!
Not only did my college work attribute to my passion for the teaching profession, so have my inspirational years of
teaching. Over the past few years, I have had the wonderful opportunity to add excitement in the classroom through many different avenues. This enthusiasm has enabled me to bring varied hands-on activities that touch on the multiple intelligences to the classroom. I strongly believe in adapting the typical classroom setting to allow for chances of creativity and individuality. Engaging students in leadership opportunities and opportunities to interact with their community is another strong objective I strive to implement. These areas of interest offer students an outlet for their creative, intellectual, social, and communicative talents. I believe that these branches of learning, along with a typical academic curriculum, teach important life skills that enhance a student’s education and future.
Although, I am primarily the sixth grade teacher here at Lake, I am also working with many other upper grade students this school year. I have the pleasure of teaching a Girl Power! and ELA/math enrichment course twice a week. I am also the yearbook coordinator for our 5th-8th grade yearbook committee. I am extremely excited for another successful year here at Lake Elementary School!
